Hi,

My name is Frank Haywood and today I have a nice, simple, but very useful product for you.

It's a default layout for all your ebooks written using the excellent OpenOffice, a completely FREE office productivity suite.

It's been set up to make it as easy as possible for you to concentrate on your writing rather than have to mess around with making your finished work presentable.

...I'm using your ebook format to write the user's manual. That was a nice video tutorial and a well written user guide. Glad you put that together, it really opened my eyes to the power of Open Office.

Open Office used to be the "poor man's" system. Now it's really robust and I use it more than MS Word.

Let me tell you why I created it.

When I wrote my first ebook, I used a simple text editor to create it, and I still do that today as I find it focuses me on the message I want to get across rather than what it looks like.

(I've actually written this sales copy using nothing more than my favourite text editor.)

But once the ebook is complete, then it's time to put it in a format that looks much better, because after all, your presentation can make a big difference when you're trying to get something across to your readers.

And of course, the ebook format of choice for many people is the Adobe PDF (Portable Document Format) - it's probably yours too as the maximum number of people can read it, regardless of what computing platform they're on.

Now there's a couple of problems with many PDF ebooks I've read. And I've seen these same problems in ebooks that have been free, or costing as much as $97.00...

  1. The links don't work.
  2. There's no clickable Table Of Contents (TOC).

Number 1 is pretty unbelievable I know, but I've lost track of the number of ebooks I've read where the links just don't work.

They look like links, they're in blue and they're underlined, and they actually contain a web address, but when you hover your mouse pointer over them, they're not clickable.

I used to wonder why it was that people would go to all that trouble to write the ebook, sign up to affiliate schemes, put their affiliate links in the ebook, and then send out an ebook where the links don't work.

(It also begs the question - Why didn't they check all their links before sending out the ebook anyway?)

And then one day, I worked out what was happening.

Another author had realised she'd sent out a free ebook to her list (which I'm on) but wasn't getting any click throughs. When she checked, she found that the links in the ebook she'd generated didn't work.

So she sent an email out to her list describing what had happened. She had the guts to admit something had gone wrong which I have to admire - we all make mistakes. She also described the exact process she'd gone through to generate her ebook.

Aha!

When I realised what she'd done, I also knew the answer. It's a really simple mistake to make, and takes moments to fix forever. But more importantly, doesn't cost a penny if you're using OpenOffice.

The mistake and the answer are in this short report.

The second problem is also easily fixable if you use OpenOffice to write your ebooks with. It enables you to automatically generate a clickable Table Of Contents (TOC) which takes your reader to different parts of the ebook.

I don't know about you, but those ebooks I've read that do have a clickable TOC have a much more professional appearance to them. Their quality and perceived value is much higher.

It's very easy to do with my pre-defined layout, but if you don't have it you'll find that can be a nightmare to get the TOC working properly.

I know that because it took me hours before I finally pieced it all together and got it working the way it should.

Now that it is working, it's simplicity itself to take my default layout and write any ebook and at the end have a fully working TOC in just a couple of clicks.

Sure, you could probably go through the pain I went through and hunt around on the web to find where it's described how to do it for free, but I guarantee you it won't work even if you get what you think is the right answer off the OpenOffice site itself.

There are always a couple of steps missing in order to get it working the way you'd expect it to.

I know because of all the frustration I had trying to make it work properly.

Well, you now don't have to bother, because for a few dollars FREE you can download my default layout which includes a front page, a Table Of Contents, and pre-defined styles which allow you to change the entire appearance of the ebook with just a few clicks.

That is, once you've watched my videos.

Because also included with this package are two short videos which you can access on the downloads page.

The first video shows you how to use the default layout to automatically create your Table Of Contents from your finished documents with just two clicks using my specially modified default layout.

The second video shows you how to correctly generate your PDF once you're completely pleased with your final document.

Finally, the answer to the problem for the author I mentioned above is also given. And you'll find out why using the wrong tool to generate your PDFs will result in broken links.

Hi Frank,

Do not want to keep you off your chores, I know you are a very busy man at the moment, but I had to write and say a BIG THANK YOU  for the OpenOffice Ebook Layout.  That is absolutely first class, and I can see how it is going to save me a lot of time in the future.

Congratulations on a brilliant product.

Looking forward to what is to come.
